Love the live Merton, amazing how quick this stuff blows up. First your in your house playing paino, then you are on a stage in front of 2000 people. Crazy.

That for the new installment, I pulled the comic feed into the class site so we can follow it more closely.

I like the idea with the dream because you can throw in all kinds of wacky ideas since we really don’t know what you dream about. Make your stories fun, interesting and humorous to get some good laughs from the class.

i think your dream blog is a brilliant exmple of digital storytellign quite frankly, and if you can start thinking about what it might mean as a form of storytelling, I would love to consider how you might frame in in this light. it is all in the argument.

But so much of web 2.0 is opinions, I don’t think we should even try defining it. If someone wants to write a story on the web, they have tons of tools at their disposal to make their story happen, that’s all that matters.

I don’t think it is all opinion by any meansl, I think there’s a fair amount of argument and discussion about what the technology means, how it works, and what it’s potential and pitfalls are. And this could eb a palce for that as well, arguments are more than a opinions, they forward an theory or idea and use examples and some form of logic or reasoning to make a case for what they are suggesting, Levine and Alexander do this well when framing the new examples of storytelling emerging in Web 2.0,

It’s easy to build a straw man around a term and suggest it has no meanings, that’s an opinion. But framing a definition of storytelling around a series of examples and emerging practices and principles is an argument. Levine and Alexander list more than thirty solid examples of stories that harness some of the non-linear, distributed examples of storytelling and narrative that are markedly different from what we might imagine as more traditional, unilateral media like films, novels, or poems. Now this is not to disavow the amazing import of thee forms, but rather to suggest how a digital form may have different rules of engagment and ideas of narrative boundaries, interaction, etc. Seems like the the conversation and interaction is key to the story—that may be one of the reasons the platform of the web affords a different means of narrative, one which we can simply absorb back into “storytelling” or decide to think closely about the possibilities for narratives a platform like the web opens up and how people are pushing that boundary.

Inentionality is a difficult ideas, and even more problematic when the medium one is working within and upon as no one fixed idea of authorship, originality, or clear cut begining middle and end. It’s the challenge to think through this media that demands a critical look and argument, not opinions, nd that’s what we need to think through.

We will be exploring Webcomics, so I’m hoping to see yours revealed this semester. Also, why not just wrap tags around the bees image in the index.html? That should work, if not you can actually use a little CSS to style the image, try this:
img { display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto }

Take a look at this page for an explanation. Though keep in mind, that style will now make every image in your page centered. This is were CSS IDs and Classes come in so that we can distinguish how certain images can be aligned left, right, or centered. Read a nice break down of this here:

As for LonelyGirl15, I remember following that story, and one of the remarkable things about it was that for a while I had no idea it was fictional. Therein lies that tricky line between understanding digital storytelling as necessarily fiction or non-fiction, and for that matter even web-based. This class will be focusing to some large degree on web-based digital storytelling because it allows us to examine the question of an audience, i.e., potentially anyone. That said, I don’t necessarily understand digital storytelling as either fiction or non-fiction, but rather as a means of exploring narrative through mediums that are particular to new modes and mediums for communication.

And because I hate BlackBoard so, I also enjoyed the point you made about the suffocating design/space of Bb makes it hard to even communicate with people you already know, no less those you don;t. The design and ownership of a space tells a story all its own, and it will be one of the first one’s we narrate this semester.
